October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Donate to Womenful Voice to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence survivors in Haiti!

This October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we at Womenful Voice are working hard to make a difference. In staggering numbers, Haitian women and girls face domestic violence and intimate partner violence. With your help, we can empower women and girls to stand tall and proud and achieve their goals.

Domestic Violence in Haiti

According to the Spotlight Initiative, over a third of women in Haiti report having suffered domestic violence from their partner. Almost a third of child-bearing-aged women report suffering physical violence and almost half of those report violence from their partner. Of the 12% of women who reported sexual violence, a quarter of those women were girls between the ages of 15 and 17.

Hoeffler, Honoré, and Gage from the Copenhagen Consensus Center estimate in their policy analysis regarding domestic violence in Haiti that 273,200 women suffer intimate partner violence (IPV) per year. Their report argues that domestic violence and IPV are serious problems in Haiti that affect women’s health and well-being.

Womenful Voice Works to Empower Haitian Women and Girls

Womenful Voice works to empower Haitian women through educational programs, mentorships, and grassroots movements. We believe that Haitian women have the power to change their communities for the better, and we are here to help them.

Our Menstruation is Power workshops build women and girls’ understanding of their bodies so that they can utilize that understanding to empower the women and girls around them. Womenful Voice operates on the ripple effect of empowerment. By empowering one woman, we can empower whole communities.

Our Accelerated Mentorship Program (AMP) builds up women and girls to achieve their career goals in the professional sphere. Through mentorship, these women can empower themselves to grow into business professionals.

You Can Help

We thrive off of a worldwide community. The statistics are bleak, but that doesn’t mean we are powerless. You can help this Domestic Violence Awareness Month by volunteering with Womenful Voice or sending in a donation to help us fund our programs. By lending us your voice, we can make a difference in the lives of Haitian women.
